Description

Safety Management Systems (SMS) have become a standard throughout the aviation industry.  The approach to managing safety risk, by implementing a systemic approach to managing safety, including the necessary organizational structures, accountabilities, policies, and procedures. assessing risks in its daily operations.  This course will provide an overview of SMS, background on its history, and its role in the evolution of Safety management.  It will highlight the four pillars of a Safety Management System: Safety Policy, Safety Risk Management, Safety Assurance, and Safety Promotion, and discuss how to implement an SMS program for rural and other small transit agencies.
