Risk Management, Decision Making, Time Management, and Stress Management (In-person)

Tuesday, April 7, 2026 8:00 AM - Wednesday, April 8, 2026 5:00 PM (CDT)

Description

This 2-day, in-person workshop is made up of 4 parts. Together, these 4 parts will help you tackle some of work and life’s most challenging problems. Leave feeling in control, confident, and equipped with tools that will assist you back at the office and in your daily lives.

Part 1 - Risk Management: Identifying and Responding to Uncertainties This session will help the participants identify common and uncommon risks as they apply to their transit systems and help prepare them to examine the potential severity and likelihood of conditions which could jeopardize their agency’s finances, operations, safety, and legal standing. The workshop will provide strategies for how to mitigate the identified risks and reduce the likelihood or severity of the consequences. It will examine risk from the point of view of the agency vulnerabilities; obstacles to mitigating risk; opportunities to protect the agency, its passengers, and its stakeholders; and threats from external sources that are unknown or difficult to control.

Part 2 - Making Tough Decisions We are asked to make tough decisions almost on a daily basis, whether it is at work or in our personal lives. Some decisions are made in split- seconds, and our safety depends on it. Most other decisions require us to rely on our experience and our observation of the “facts” as we see them. This workshop will identify principles that we can all learn and follow to make the best decisions possible. It will help with the identification of powerful biases and wishful thinking that impede good decision-making and provide steps for making smarter decisions. If our own experience is any guide, then you are still going to make poor or uniformed decisions some of the time. However, this session will help make you become better at assessing the situation and make good decisions more decisively and with confidence. To improve our decision-making requires learned techniques and practice. It becomes a process and enables us to focus our attention on things we might otherwise have missed, overlooked, or resisted.

Part 3 – Time Management This session will help you use your time more effectively, accomplish more, and stress less. Today we are being asked to do more than ever before. You have many demands on your time at work and in your personal lives, pulling you in multiple directions at the same time. Time management is a crucial business and life skill that successful people must master. This workshop will help you identify the things that are more important for you to spend the majority of your time on, and the things that a preventing you from doing just that. This workshop will help you identify how you currently are spending your time, evaluate your choices, learn real-world productivity skills, and have a plan to stop spending your days feeling stressed in a deadline-driven crisis mode.

Part 4 – Stress Management We cannot control outside factors in our work and personal lives that compound our workload, “pile-on” our already overloaded “to-do” lists or interrupt our already full schedules. What we can control is how we react and deal with those stressors that we encounter on a regular basis. This stress management session helps each participant identify their own stressors and pinpoint their individual reactions to the stresses they face. Specific tools will be provided to help you recognize, monitor, and change your response to stress. You will leave this workshop with solutions specific to you that can be applied to both your personal and professional life to help reduce the effect stress has on your daily life.
